A Home Remedy for Teeth Whitening

Recently I read about a home remedy that I found interesting. I decided to try it out and see what would happen.

The remedy consists of strawberries, mashed together with  ½ teaspoon of baking soda.

The reason for the strawberries is that it contains malic acid. The malic acid is said to have tooth whitening properties in addition to benefits for the skin. There are upsides and downsides to this ingredient. In a study recently done one dentiststats in the following article that the malic acid can wear down enamel over time. Read article here.

The plus is that it actually does seem to have an immediate whitening effect and is not inherently harmful.

Malic acid is more known for its skin enhancing qualities.

After I used strawberries and baking soda.

It helps to remove the outer layer of skin and contribute to greater activity of collagen. This basically reproduces the process that is ongoing in youthful skin and slows down when we get older.

In conclusion malic acid like so many other supplements and naturally occurring substances used inproduction of health and beauty supplies can be beneficial if used wisely and moderately but damaging if used frivolously or intemperately.
