Find out how to a great dentist for all your dental needs!
You’ve just moved – to Jacksonville, for example – and you need to find a lot of new things: stores, restaurants, gyms… and doctors. Particularly a new dentist. Your insurance company may have given you a list, but you’d like to go deeper than that. Nobody in your circle knew of anyone in your new surroundings before you left, so you’re left wondering what to do. You could always just open a phonebook and call the nearest dentist, but there have to be better ways to go about it.
The first thing you could do is to just look around your area when you’re walking or driving around. Are there any local dentists within walking or short driving distance? That could save a lot of time and effort especially if you needed to have a procedure that required you to have someone drive you home. You could easily walk, instead. There’s just something comforting about knowing that you’re just a short distance away from your dentist. The only drawback is that might make you underestimate how much time you have to get to your appointment and you wind up being late more often than you’d like.
Local Word of Mouth
If you’re a loquacious sort… and even if you’re not… you could ask the people in the area around you, ranging from the person in front of you or behind at the grocery store to your next-door neighbor. They’ll surely tell you who their dentist is… and you can go see if this one meets your criteria. Remember though, not everyone is going to like the same type of dentist. One may like a dentist who is clipped and businesslike while others may like dentists who are very gregarious. Ultimately, you want to make sure they are quite competent first before you go to your first appointment.
This is the thing that has been the game-changer when it comes to finding a new type of anything – doctor, house, car… you name it. With an internet connection and just a few strokes of a keyboard, you can look up dentists who are within a certain radius of your home, along with reviews and directions. The caveat is that you also risk information overload – there can be so many reviews and sites out there that you have to figure out how to pare everything down to a few or a couple of trustworthy ones that you know the reviews are honest and not just people with agendas either for or against the dentist.
So, those are just some of the ways that you can go about finding a great dentist. The important thing is to always listen to your gut. If something seems off or the staff or dentist’s behavior seems off… then just stop and go seek out another dentist. Don’t feel compelled to stay just because one of your friends or family members is so adamant that this dentist is perfect. You may find that the hygienist is too rough when scraping plaque off. If you’re in Jacksonville, Dr. Shaista Najmi and her staff at Ivory Dental can help you.
